What is .alt?
Used for alternative naming systems outside the global Domain Name System (DNS).
Its purpose is to provide a namespace for experimental or non-standard naming schemes — such as peer-to-peer or blockchain-based networks — so they can coexist with the global DNS without risk of collision or confusion.
Refer to The .alt Special-Use Top-Level Domain (RFC 9476) for more information.
You can't register a name under .alt at any registrar, and it's not meant to resolve on the public internet. That's exactly why it's useful: software and people can rely on it never colliding with a real website.
